MUSICA D’ESTATE IS NOW A FESTIVAL

Located at an altitude of 1300 meters, in the heart of the Alps encircling Turin, Musica d’Estate has become even more international in outlook. For 31 years it has organized a program of masterclasses in advanced music training, which attracts students from all over Italy and abroad, and has combined this with a series of concerts that draw enthusiastic audiences. Continuing with this winning format, Musica d’Estate will now be expanding its program to become a true festival, in the refreshing air of Bardonnecchia taking place high in the mountains, an oasis in the mountains where you can study, enjoy and immerse yourself in music

Here are the new features:

• The existing team of world class teachers who hold our advanced music masterclasses has been expanded to include other internationally renowned musicians.
• The 16 masterclasses will now be residential: students will stay in hostel-style accommodation, so as to add an experience of immersion and community during the time they spend studying here.
• Traditionally, the concert programme has consisted of 26 daytime concerts, performed in the churches of the historic center of Bardonecchia, with free admission to the public. Now there will be an additional 3 evening events at the Palazzo delle Feste, where students will play alongside their teachers, in a dialogue between established musicians and professionals in training.
• Finally, the programme will include 4 talks by musicians of international fame, with vast experience in teaching, who will explore issues like the dynamics between developing as an artist and forging a career as a professional musician.

Since 1995, the Bardonecchia summer campus has hosted internationally renowned teachers and students for residential masterclasses in piano, violin, viola, cello, and chamber music. Teachers for the 2026 summer courses will be as follows: Roberto Plano, Enrico Pace, Benedetto Lupo, Pietro De Maria, Gabriele Carcano, Claudio Voghera, Epifanio Comis, Hubert Rutkowski, Christiane Karajeva (piano), Sonig Tchakerian, Ivan Rabaglia, Guido Rimonda, Piergiorgio Rosso (violin), Simone Briatore (viola), Enrico Bronzi (cello), Trio Debussy (chamber music).

29 EVENTS WITH FREE ADMISSION FOR THE PUBLIC

Every summer, during Musica d’Estate around thirty classical music concerts are held in the historic centre of Bardonecchia during the day. Admission to the concerts is free and they attract hundreds of people every year.

Performing in these concerts will be young musicians who are already working professionally (Chiesa di Sant’Ippolito church), as well as some students from the Musica d’Estate advanced masterclasses, selected by their teachers (Chiesa di Maria Ausiliatrice church). A new feature this year will be 3 evening concerts held in the Sala Giolitti at Palazzo delle Feste, where students will perform together with their teachers, in a dialogue between established musicians and professionals in training.

MDE OFF | Interviews

A series of interviews will be conducted in the evenings, in the foyer of the Sala Viglione at the Palazzo delle Feste, with Gianmarco Moneti interviewing and presenting. The interviewees will be 4 internationally famous musicians, who are teachers of the advanced music masterclasses held in Bardonecchia, as well as teaching courses at the Accademia in Pinerolo that are enthusiastically followed by students. A Q&A session with questions from the audience will follow every interview.

Laura Richaud is the artistic director of the 31st International Summer Music Festival ‘Musica d’Estate’. Claudio Voghera is the coordinator of studies.
