Born in Milan, Amalia Castoldi began playing the piano relatively late, around the age of 17–18. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Piano at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado (2023, Milan) and subsequently her Master’s degree at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Como (2024).
She is currently attending the advanced piano course with Giovanni Doria Miglietta and the advanced course in contemporary piano with Emanuele Arciuli at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo.
Amalia has always nurtured a deep interest in contemporary and 20th-century music. Starting from the 2023 academic year, she began a specialization in this field under the guidance of Maestro Arciuli. She took part in a seminar held by Professor Giuseppe Leanza at the Milan Conservatory on the analysis of Boulez’s Third Sonata and attended contemporary piano masterclasses with Francesco Prode. In 2023 and 2024, she was pianist of the ensemble Laboratorio ’900 at the Conservatory of Como. In 2025, she participated in the masterclass and concerts of the “Time of Music” Festival in Finland, collaborating with Mark Knoop (piano) and Matthew Shlomowitz (composition). She has been selected for the precept.concept.percept XIV artistic residency (November 2025 – June 2026), organized by [infra.norma.meta] (Amsterdam) in collaboration with the .abeceda Institute (Ljubljana). The residency will conclude at the 6th Bled Contemporary Music Week in Bled (Slovenia).
She has taken part in numerous piano masterclasses with renowned international pianists, including Clive Britton, Roberto Prosseda, Carlo Balzaretti, Roberto Plano, Paolo Gilardi, Giovanni Bellucci, Maria Grazia Bellocchio, Joonas Ahonen, Francesco Prode, and Andrea Lucchesini. She also attended chamber music masterclasses with the Trio Kanon, Tommaso Lonquich, and Marion Reinhard. During the 2019/20 academic year, she participated in the annual masterclass “Arrau Piano Surgery” led by Clive Britton.
Amalia has been awarded in several national and international competitions. In 2024, she won First Prize (99/100) in the Chamber Music section and Second Prize (96/100) in the Piano section at the 8th International Competition “Città di Alessandria.” The following year, at the 13th National Competition “Città di Bardolino,” she won First Prize (96/100) in category Piano F. Also in 2025, she was awarded Third Prize in the final of the 23rd International Piano Competition “Maria Giubilei” in the section dedicated to contemporary music. She also received Second Prize (94/100) at the 1st National Competition “Allegro Molto.” She has performed as a soloist at numerous festivals throughout Italy, including: Piano City Milan, Piano City Trieste, “Flying Notes” (organized by Fazioli), Piano Days in Trieste, “Giovani Talenti” at Teatro del Mutuo Soccorso in Imperia, “Summer Music Festival” by the Suoni D’Autore association, “Musica d’Estate” at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo, “Piano Estense” in Ferrara, “Tucogiò Piano Festival” in Treviso, “Piano Lab” in Apulia, “diCHIARAzione” in Milan, and Piano City Lecce. She has also given solo recitals at Casa Boschi di Stefano and Casa della Memoria in Milan, the Auditorium of the Revoltella Museum in Trieste, and at the RAI regional headquarters of Friuli Venezia Giulia. She was selected for a recital dedicated to Béla Bartók, organized by the Piano Link association for the Anniver…Series season.
In 2022, she recorded a commercial for DHL and FIAT, performing the first movement of Mozart’s Sonata K331. In 2024, she was interviewed by RDE Radio in Trieste. In 2025, she was interviewed by Story Time, a format of Radio Canale Italia.
