Ester Covini
Biography

A young mezzo-soprano from Milan, Ester Covini began her musical studies as a cellist before moving on to opera singing. She graduated with honours with a first-level diploma in opera singing from the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan in October 2022 and will soon obtain a second-level diploma in opera singing from the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan. During her studies at the conservatory, she participated in masterclasses with Françoise Detcherique, Francesco Micheli, Mathias Alteheld, Thomas Busch, Attilio Cremonesi and Daniele Abbado.

She recently made her debut in the role of Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the opening of the 2022 season of “Voce all’Opera”. Her other experiences as a soloist and chorister include Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Giordano’s Siberia, Ponchielli’s I Promessi Sposi, Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, Leoncavallo’s Zingari, the Milan Conservatory Christmas Concert and the world premiere of Mauro Montalbetti’s Still Requies.

Among the venues where she has performed are the Sala Verdi, Teatro dell’Arte (theatre of the Triennale di Milano), Museo Studio Francesco Messina, Teatro Spazio 89 and Teatro Bello in Milan; Duomo di Pordenone and Teatro Grande in Brescia. She has sung for “Le Serate Musicali”, “Voce all’Opera” and the Gabriel Faurè Choir in Milan. Ester has also collaborated with Daniel Agiman’s conducting class at the Milan Conservatory, singing the role of Dorabella in Mozart’s Così Fan Tutte with the LaVerdi Orchestra. In March 2022, she sang the mezzo-soprano role in the premiere of Claudio Gay’s La Terra Desolata. Inspired by Ester’s promising talent, Gay is currently devising an opera that will be written specifically for her voice.

On 23 September 2023 and 14 October 2023, she made her debut as a soloist in Johan de Meij’s Symphony No. 4 at the Auditorium San Zeno with the Vox Aurae Choir conducted by Maestro Luca Pasqua.  On 28 December 2023, she made her debut in the world premiere of the Italian version of the symphony for band, narrator and Santa Claus voice by Maestro Ferrer Ferran, conducted by the composer himself.

She participated in a masterclass with tenor Marcelo Alvarez and director Laura Cosso at the Fondazione Accademia di Musica in Pinerolo from 22 to 25 May 2024. Among her current and future engagements, on 8 June she will make her debut in the role of Rosina in Rossini’s opera Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the conclusion of the “Tutti all’opera!” workshop organised by the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan. On 6 June, she will sing the contralto solo part in Bach’s Mass in B minor with orchestra and choir.

She is a student at the Fondazione Accademia di Musica.
