Marcelo Álvarez, born in Córdoba (Argentina), is internationally recognized as one of the most important tenors of this era and has been acclaimed at virtually all the great opera houses of the world.
His great talent, discovered by Giuseppe Di Stefano and Luciano Pavarotti, takes him soon to Europe where he debuts in “La Sonnambula” at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
His intense and prestigious career has led him to the major theaters in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, the Opéra National de Paris, the Vienna Staatsoper, Madrid’s Teatro Real, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
His repertoire is vast and follows the natural vocal evolution that over the years has brought him from a belcanto repertoire, through the french repertoire, to a lyric and verismo repertoire, among which the most significant interpretations are: Edgardo “Lucia of Lammermoor”, Gennaro “Lucrezia Borgia”, Alfredo “La Traviata”, Duca di Mantova “Rigoletto”, Werther “Werther”, Des Grieux “Manon”, Doctor Faust “Faust”, Don José “Carmen”, Rodolfo “La Bohème”, Cavaradossi “Tosca”, Manrico “Il Trovatore”, Radames “Aida”, Riccardo “Un Ballo in Maschera”, Andrea Chénier “Andrea Chénier”, Canio “Pagliacci”, Turiddu “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Des Grieux “Manon Lescaut”.
He has collaborated with some of the most prestigious conductors including James Levine, Zubin Metha, Lorin Maazel, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Claudio Abbado, Richard Muti, Daniel Oren, Richard Chailly and Antonio Pappano.
