TOWARDS A CAREER IN OPERA
Our two-year postgraduate course specialising in opera singing (3rd university cycle) is the only course of its kind in the world of advanced music training in Italy. It was created in 2024 as the result of a partnership between two foundations, the Fondazione Luciano Pavarotti and the Fondazione Accademia di Musica, and in homage to the great tradition of the Canto Lirico Italiano, declared part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. The collaboration has been set up in order to offer young opera singers a new training opportunity, enabling them to develop their talent and hone their skills. The course is seen as a process that will help them to transition and mature, as they prepare for a career performing or teaching opera singing. The qualification is recognised by the MUR – Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca / MUR – Universitaly) with a value of 3 points in applications for public teaching positions. Our teaching staff are all renowned singers in the field of opera, and there will also be contributions from guest artists from the most prestigious opera companies in the world.
DEGREE RECOGNISED BY THE ITALIAN MINISTRY OF EDUCATION
Students who complete the Specialist courses will be awarded a qualification recognised by the Ministry (MIUR | MUR/Universitaly) as equivalent to that awarded by other schools offering Specialist degrees, Corso di Specializzazione (D.L. 31/1/2006). To be eligible to apply for the course candidates must possess a second level degree in music from a university-level school of music (Conservatoires and ex IMPs), or from an institute of higher education authorised to award certificates of Advanced Studies in Art, Music and Dance (as per Italian law ex art. 11 DPR 8 July 2005, no.212), or certification or a qualification from another country which is legally recognised as equivalent.
3 POINTS IN COMPETITIONS FOR TEACHING POSITIONS
The 3rd level postgraduate degree conferred by the Accademia di Musica on completion of our Postgraduate Specialist Course in Musical Performance is officially recognised by MIUR Italian Ministry of Education and Research as having a value of 3 points in any public competition for a teaching position in a higher education institute of music and dance performance.

INNOVATIVE TEACHING METHOD
The aim of the course is to enable the student to begin or to consolidate a career performing or teaching opera singing. The study pathway is designed for students of singing who have already completed a second level 2-year postgraduate degree (or old programme Conservatoire degree course) who wish to specialise and develop professional skills.
Singing teachers who perform with the most prestigious opera companies in the world, guarantee that students will be exposed to a great variety of approaches to interpretation and aesthetics; however, the fundamental concepts of the training overall remain unified, and are inspired by the artistic legacy left by Luciano Pavarotti.
The innovative teaching methodology is rooted in the synergy created between the teachers of singing and of repertoire, acting and stagecraft, which results in a course aimed at training the singer-actor. The course also offers additional subects that give students the essential skills and information needed to manage their professional career.
PAVAROTTI’S ARTISTIC LEGACY
“Luciano Pavarotti has left us an immense artistic legacy and his interpretations have left their mark on the history of opera in the 20th century. Thanks to his impeccable vocal technique (supported by the skilled use of the diaphragm), which allowed him to have exceptionally clear diction, to the rich overtones, the luminous high notes, all combined with an intense stage interpretation, he gave new luster to the bel canto tradition. No less important, however, is the legacy he left in musical education, which he developed not as a performer, but as a teacher, dedicating himself to the training of young singers for over forty years.”
Nicoletta Mantovani
A TWO-YEAR PATHWAY
The course of study lasts for two years and combines individual singing lessons with group lessons for complementary subjects. Both take place on a monthly basis at the Accademia di Musica.
A summer internship is planned, which will take place in Modena, at the Luciano Pavarotti House Museum, in the very same room where the Maestro held auditions and gave lessons to his most talented students. The “immersive” experience in the world of Luciano Pavarotti will be catalyzing and a source of inspiration for students.
Personalised study paths, professional opportunities created specifically for each student and concert/performance opportunities at important music institutions complete the 360-degree introduction to the opera profession today.
