Michele Castaldo
Biography

Born in Bologna in 2005, he was admitted to the Conservatorio “G.B. Martini” in Bologna in 2016 in the class of Victoria Pontecorboli, passing his pre-academic examinations with top marks and honours. A student of Giorgio Farina, he is currently attending the Bachelor’s Degree at the Conservatorio “A. Buzzolla” in Adria.

He is the winner of the following prizes: first prize at the national competitions “Città di Riccione”, “Città di Giussano” and “Piove di Sacco”, and at the international competitions “Riviera della Versilia”, “Città di Albenga”, “Città di Minerbio”, “Sonja Pahor”, “International Moscow Music Competition”, “American International Music Competition Cleveland”, “New York Classical Music Competition” and “Roma International Piano Competition”; first absolute prize at the national competitions “Piano Pianissimo”, “Città di Bucchianico”, “Ugo Amendola” (two editions), “Giuseppe Alberghini” (best pianist prize) and “Marco Bramanti” (cat. B); first absolute prize at the international competitions “Humberto Quagliata”, “Città di Villafranca” (audience prize and Special Amadeus Prize), “Città di San Donà di Piave”, “Festival 4 Arts Romania” (Grand Prize and Festival 4 Arts Trophy), “Orbetello Piano Competition” and “Andrea Baldi” (category up to 35 years).

He has taken part in various masterclasses, including those with Marco Fumo, Tatiana Levitina, Olaf Laneri, Leonora Armellini, Federico Nicoletta, Michele Campanella, Andrzej Pikul, Alberto Nosè, André Gallo, Giorgio Farina, Alexander Romanovsky and Nikolaj Lugansky.

He has performed as a soloist on numerous occasions, including participation in three editions of the “Livorno Music Festival”, at the “Festival Fundación Olivar de Castillejo” in Madrid, and in concert series such as “Sesto Giovani” in Florence, “Circolo Artistico” in Venice, “Camerata Musicale Salentina” in Lecce, “Amici della Musica” in Modena, “Giovani in Musica” in Ravenna, “Artisti cioè amici” in Ferrara, “Domenica in Musica” in Ascoli Piceno, “Circolo della Musica” in Bologna, “Classica Giovani” in San Marino, “Misano Piano Festival” and “Emilia Romagna Festival”.

At the age of 12, with the orchestra of the Conservatorio of Bologna conducted by Vincenzo De Felice, he performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 2, K.39.

In 2021, at the Teatro Manzoni in Bologna, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Academic Year, with the orchestra of the Conservatorio G.B. Martini conducted by Alberto Caprioli, he performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2, later performed again in 2024 within the “BeethovenFest” series in the theatres of Benevento and Campobasso, with the Orchestra Sinfonica del Molise conducted by Michele Campanella.

In 2025, finalist at the International Competition for Piano and Orchestra of Cantù, he performed Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Romanian State Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ovidiu Balan.

He has been a student of the Fondazione Accademia di Musica since 2026.
