Francesco Melis
Biography

Born in 2000, he started to play the violin aged 7 at the Music School of his town, Tradate. He studies under Professor Giovanna Polacco at Conservatorio of Milan, where he took his Bachelor degree cum laude in 2020 . He attended also masterclasses with Professor Ilya Grubert and Professor Lukas Hagen.

He has performed as soloist, chamber musician and orchestra-player in many Italian cities (Milano, Varese, Novara, Bergamo, Brescia, Genova, Pistoia…) and abroad, in fine venues for important cultural associations, playing music from the baroque to the contemporary period, also the least known repertoire.

He has performed in various orchestras, such as Orchestra Giovanile del Lago Maggiore,  Orchestra sinfonica Ars Cantus, Orchestra da camera Arteviva, Orchestra Sinfonica del Conservatorio di Milano, of which he is Konzertmeister.

He has an intense activity of chamber music: he has played in many groups, among the others: duo with piano at Palazzina Liberty of Milan for Milano Classica, at Casa della Memoria, alla Casa di riposo dei musicisti for Premio Sergio Dragoni for Società del Quartetto, at Museo del Novecento of Milan and at Musei Vaticani; in string trio for associations such as MITO Settembre Musica, FAI and Touring Club Italiano; in string quartet for European Space Agency and Rai. He has been member of the milano808ensemble and of  Dèdalo Ensemble, with which he has played in various formations.

In March 2018 he performed as soloist with Orchestra del Laboratorio d’Archi del Conservatorio di Milano under the baton of Maestro Giovanni Antonini at Sala Verdi of Milan.

He took part in Rassegna nazionale per giovani strumentisti ad arco 2018 organized by the European String Teachers Association Italia in Cremona.

He won the second prize in the category “Strings and plucked instruments” of Premio del Conservatorio 2018 and the second prize at Premio Crescendo of Florence.

In 2019 he was selected as first violin of a string quartet to represent the Italian Republic at Kyoto International Music Students Festival.
