The Marga Richter Project is the brainchild of Emanuele Arciuli, pianist, one of the most known and acclaimed interpreters of 20th and 21st century music at an international level. Emanuele Arciuli teaches at Accademia di Musica Advanced music course in contemporary music for piano (deadline: 26/9) and he is one of teachers of contemporary piano in the new Post-graduate specialist courses in music performance.
The project envisages the involvement of students or alumni of the Academy in the production of a CD with the complete piano works of the famous American composer Marga Richter, one of the pioneers of the 20th century, creator of more than one hundred works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, dance, opera, voice, choir, piano, organ, and harpsichord, who passed away in 2020. Regarding her style, critic Michael Redmond wrote:
“…there’s something wild and very strange about it, something inimitable, compelling, personal, unforgettable; this music doesn’t sound like anybody else’s, and the musical intelligence – the way the composer’s mind works – is likewise distinctive.”
At the end of September 2024, at the Digressione Music recording studio in Molfetta, twelve of Emanuele Arciuli’s students and alumni of the Accademia will record the complete piano works of this composer. A CD is planned to be released next year. Maestro Arciuli comments:
“The world premiere recording of Marga Richter’s complete piano works is an exciting adventure, which is both a fitting tribute to a great, little-known composer and an educational experience for the Accademia’s students”.
