Massimiliano Génot graduated at the age of sixteen from the Verdi Conservatory in Turin and subsequently studied composition with Gianni Sartorio, Gilberto Bosco, and Riccardo Piacentini. He perfected his skills with Aldo Ciccolini at the Perosi Academy in Biella. He entered the Geneva Conservatory in Maria Tipo’s class, where he was awarded the Premier Prix de Virtuosité avec distinction. He completed his studies at the “Incontri con il Maestro” Academy in Imola, where his encounters with Piero Rattalino, Lazar Berman, and Flavio Ponzi were decisive. Some of his piano transcriptions were awarded prizes by the Wagner Association of Venice and then recorded on Wagner’s piano in Bayreuth. Awarded at Busoni 1994 and Rina Sala Gallo 1996, after his first recordings containing studies and transcriptions from operas, Génot devoted himself to the rediscovery of composers who had remained in the shadows, teaching, and historical improvisation. Together with jazz pianist Emanuele Sartoris, he recorded a polystylistic four-hand paraphrase of Liszt’s Totentanz. He performs in concert in many countries around the world. Massimiliano Génot studied directly with many exponents of the world’s most important piano schools, such as Maria Tipo, Aldo Ciccolini, Georges Cziffra, Agostino Orizio, and Piero Rattalino. He synthesized his experiences into an original method that involves the recovery of improvisation and harmony on the piano.
