Ryutaro Sugiyama
Biography

Ryutaro Sugiyama studies piano under the guidance of Maestro Luca Schieppati at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, where he also attends the chamber music class of Professor Emanuela Piemonti and the specialized course in contemporary repertoire taught by Maestro Davide Cabassi. He has participated several times in the Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy, where he studied with Maestro Bruno Canino.

He has performed as a soloist and played Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466, in Sala Verdi with the Conservatory Orchestra of Milan.

He has won several awards, including the First Absolute Prize at the “Città di Asti” International Competition and the “COOP Music Awards”. In 2019, he was awarded First Prize and the Bach Prize at the 34th National Piano Competition “J. S. Bach”.

Sugiyama formed a duo with violinist Sara Bellettini, and together they won second prize in the chamber music category at the 2022 Conservatory Award held by the Milan Conservatory. As part of their duo training, Ryutaro attended chamber music classes at the Fiesole School of Music, studying with Maestro Bruno Canino, Maestro Alexander Lonquich, the Gaspard Trio, Maestro David Waterman, and at the Accademia Perosi in Biella with Maestro Andrea Lucchesini and Maestro Marco Rizzi.

He sang for eight years in the Children’s Choir of the Teatro alla Scala, taking part in numerous performances. In 2016, Ryutaro performed a sixhand piece by Kurtág at Piano City alongside Maestro Bruno Canino and Maestro Ricciarda Belgiojoso.

Since 2023, he has been studying orchestral conducting at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado, under the guidance of his own father.

He is student of Fondazione Accademia di Musica since 2025.
