Moritz Defregger (*2001) has been studying violin with Lukas Hagen and Klara Flieder-Pantillon at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg since 2020. He has been a member of the academy orchestra there since 2023, where he works with conductors such as Ion Marin. In addition to many different projects, he also gives solo and chamber music concerts in Salzburg, including in the large hall of the Mozarteum Foundation or the Mozart Residence. In autumn 2023, he performed together with Giovanni Guzzo at the ‘Herbsttöne-Festival’.
In addition to his studies, he regularly receives important musical impulses at festivals and masterclasses, such as the ‘Starnberger Musiktage’, the ‘Wolfgang-Sawallisch- Stiftung’ or the ‘Austrian Masterclasses’. In August 2023, he took part in the ‘European Masterclasses’ festival in Stockholm and was active as a concertmaster, among other things.
He took his first violin lessons at the age of three and received his musical training from Jorge Sutil, Rudens Turku and David Frühwirth, among others, until his studies. He also deepened his artistic knowledge with renowned professors such as Ingolf Turban, Benjamin Schmid, Lena Neudauer, Christian Altenburger, Wen-Sinn Yang and Cibrán Sierra Vazquez.
He founded the ‘duo molede’ with his brother Lenz Defregger (violoncello) in 2018. They perform together regularly, and composing their own pieces is an important part of their work alongside the classical repertoire. These contain progressive playing techniques with elements from popular music and clearly distinguish themselves from classical music through improvisation parts. In addition to concerts in the famous Bibliothekssaal Polling, Vienna and Italy, they have performed several times in Salzburg. In autumn 2022, ORF Salzburg recorded a live concert to mark the 100th anniversary of the ‘IGNM’.
In addition to chamber music, which is very close to his heart, he also enjoys playing the viola.
As concertmaster and soloist of the youth ensemble ‘Bella Musica’, he gives concerts internationally.
He has also been a soloist with the Weilheim Chamber Orchestra on several occasions and is a national prizewinner in the national ‘Jugend musiziert’ competition.
He is part of the art project ‘STOA169’.
He is student of Fondazione Accademia di Musica ETS since 2025.
