Íris Claro, born in 2009 in Porto, Portugal, began her musical journey at the age of five,
studying oboe under the guidance of Ana Madalena Silva at the Conservatório de Música do Porto, where she completed her 5th grade. Her passion for singing led her to begin vocal training at eleven with Margarida Reis at the same conservatory.
Íris has achieved success in both her vocal and instrumental pursuits. As a soprano, she
won 1st prize in competitions such as the Concurso Interno do Conservatório de Música do Porto [Conservatório de Música do Porto’s Internal Competition] and the Concurso Nacional Cidade de Gaia [National Competition Gaia City], both in 2023. Her talent as a singer was further recognized when she performed as a soloist at the renowned Casa da Música in 2022.
In addition to her achievements in singing, Íris also won second prizes in competitions
such as the Prémio Ilda Moura [Ilda Moura Prize] in 2019, the 1st Festival Oboé Online [1st Online Oboe Festival InMusic Competition] in 2021, and the XV International Competition Paços Premium in 2022. Her dedication to the oboe has allowed her to work with distinguished musicians like Tiago Coimbra, Rui Pinto, and Saúl Silva, further honing her skills.
She is a student of the Fondazione Accademia di Musica.
