Yu Fang Annie Hsu

Taiwanese-Canadian violinist Annie Hsu started her violin studies at age 8. In 2006, she was accepted into the studio of Herbert Greenberg at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon graduation, she was awarded the J.C. van Hulsteyn Violin Award.
Accepting a full scholarship from Louisiana State University under the tutelage of Espen Lilleslåtten, Ms. Hsu received her Masters of Music degree in May 2012. From 2012~2014 she was
a scholarship recipient at The Boston Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts, achieving a Graduate Performance Diploma in the studio of Lynn Chang. After moving to Italy in 2014 she studied with Stefano Pagliani, ex-concertmaster of Teatro alla Scala, for 3 years.
Ms. Hsu has acted as concertmaster for nearly all her collegial orchestras, including both symphonic and operatic repertoires. Furthermore, she has shared the stage with Baton Rouge
Symphony Orchestra; Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra; a core founding member of Cambridge Philharmonic in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Orchestra Accademia Teatro alla Scala
(Concertmaster); Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Italy; Orchestra da Camera di Imola; Orchestra Teatro Massimo of Palermo (winner of audition 2018/2019); Orchestra della Toscana,
Florence (winner of audition 2019~2021); and Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali (competition finalist 2019). This has led to working with leading conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi,
Sir Neville Marriner, Susanna Mälkki, Ádám Fischer, Bramwell Tovey, Leon Fleisher, Gustav Meier, Marin Alsop, Colin Metters, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Eri Klas and many more. In March 2015 she made her solo debut with Accademia Teatro alla Scala Orchestra at Teatro alla Scala.
In April 2015 she joined La Scala’s concert in Piazza Duomo, Milan in celebration of the opening of Expo2015. In summer 2016, she was appointed as concertmaster in a special concert in Roma’s Colosseo under the baton of Zubin Mehta.
She has had solo masterclasses with Gwen Thompson, Ian Swensen, Mark Fewer, Julia Bushkova, Pamela Frank, Joseph Silverstein, Paul Florin, current concertmasters of Teatro alla Scala, and Marco Fiorini, ex-concertmaster of Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In recital, she has collaborated with NPR’s From the Top host Christopher O’Riley and American pianist Max Levinson. Recently she has studied with Domenico Pierini, concertmaster of Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, Italy.
Ms. Hsu has been a two-time scholarship participant at the Aspen Music Festival; the TusciA Operafestival in Viterbo, Italy, where she served as co-concertmaster; the Heifetz Institute;
Niagara International Chamber Music Festival; and the NYU String quartet Program. Ms. Hsu currently resides in Milan, Italy.
