Alessandra Di Gennaro
Biography

Born in 1994 in L’ Aquila (Italy), Alessandra Di Gennaro graduated “cum laude” in
2015 from the Conservatory of Music “Alfredo Casella” in L’ Aquila under the guidance
of professor Elena Matteucci. In the same year, after winning an Erasmus scholarship,
she moved to The Netherlands, where she carried on her musical studies
at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague with professor Ellen Corver, obtaining her
degree in 2019 with a special mention for her “artistic personality”.
During her studies in Italy and in Holland, she had the chance to attend masterclasses
with internationally acclaimed professors such as Frank Braley, Slava Poprugin,
Denis Proshayev, Kalman Drafi, Ronald Brautigam, Naum Grubert, David Kuyken,
Vsevolod Dvorkin, Severin von Eckardstein, Boris Petrushansky, Kostantin Bogino,
Franco Medori, Laura Pietrocini, Daniel Buranovsky, Fausto Di Cesare etc.
Alessandra has performed regularly both as soloist and with chamber music ensembles in major venues in Italy, Holland, France, Hungary, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and she has been invited to play by prestigious music Institutions such as the Italian Institutes of Culture in Paris, Amsterdam, Budapest, “Buitengewoon Klassiek” in Breda (NL), “Naarden International Piano Festival” (NL), Radio West NL, “Prague Summer Music Festival”, “Festival dei due mondi” (Spoleto, IT), “La Biennale di Venezia”, “La società dei concerti di Milano”, Associazione concertistica “B.Barattelli” – L’Aquila etc.
Worth of mention is her special commitment in the divulgation of contemporary music: particularly remarkable are her collaborations with composers like Meredith Monk, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Anna Korsun, Kate Moore, Hans Abrahamsen etc., whose works she performed for important Institutions such as Holland Festival, Hartwig Art Foundation, Dutch National Opera Academy, New European Ensemble, Asko | Schö nberg Ensemble, Dag in de Brandig, OPERA2-DAY etc. Her performances have been positively reviewed by world-wide famous magazines like The New York Times and by the specialized press (“Artribune”, “De Niewe Muze”, Piano-Vrienden NL).
In 2019 she established together with the pianist Michele D’Ascenzo the “Dirac Piano Duo”, engaged not only in proposing to the public great classical repertoire for piano four-hands, but especially in revealing authentic gems of the contemporary repertoire and commissioning new exciting works for that medium.
In 2021 Alessandra’s thesis on piano four-hands contemporary repertoire has inspired the Chinese composer Ching-Fang Teng to write a new piece, “Entanglement”, especially dedicated to Dirac Piano Duo.
Since 2020 Alessandra is extremely active in the research field as well: in 2021 her research project about piano four-hands contemporary repertoire has won the Frans Schreuderprijs held by EPTA Nederlands (European Piano Teachers Association) and has been exposed during the “PGVIM International Symposium”, a lecture organised by the “Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music” of Bangkok. In 2022 Alessandra published articles for the magazine “Piano Bulletin” NL, sharing once more the results of her research with a broad international public. Since 2023 she is a student at the Musicology course of “La Sapienza” University in Rome.
Alessandra has also been prized inNational Piano Competitions in Italy such as the “Concorso di esecuzione musicale Rotary club Teramo est” (second prize, 2014), the “Concorso Nazionale Marco Dall’Aquila” (second prize, 2012), the ” Magliano Sabina National Competition” (First Absolute prize 2009), the “Concorso Nazionale dell’Adriatico” (First Absolute prize, 2008) etc.
Alessandra believes firmly in music education: from 2017 to 2018 she taught piano in the “Virtuosi school of Music” of The Hague and from 2019 to 2023 in the “Muziekacademy Den Haag”. Since 2023 she is currently teaching in the Conservatory “Niccolò Piccinni” of Bari.
